OFIVE : Tu as désormais la chance d’être signé sur ROC Nation, dix ans après la sortie de ton premier album. Quel effet cela fait de faire partie de l’équipe au même titre que J.Cole, Jay-Z, The Lox, Dj Khaled… ? // You now have the privilege to be signed on ROC Nation, ten years after your first album release. How does it feel to be a member of this prestigious company alongside artists such as J.Cole, Jay-Z, The Lox, DJ Khaled and more ?
Statik. S : La plupart sont des artistes que je connais depuis longtemps et que je considère comme des amis. C’est la « Cour des grands ». // Most of them being artists that I’ve known for so long and consider friends. It’s the major leagues.
OFIVE : Qu’est-ce qui a vraiment changé pour toi dans l’industrie de la musique depuis ce contrat ? // What has really changed for you in the music industry since this contract ?
Statik. S : J’ai évidemment la chance de pouvoir travailler avec d’excellentes ressources et une très bonne équipe. C’est ce dont j’avais besoin depuis un bon moment. // I definitely get some great resources behind me and a good team that I’ve been needing for a long time now.
OFIVE : Est-ce que cela a changé ta façon de produire l’album ? Les instrus, le concept… ? // Has it changed the way you’ve made this album in particular ? Your beats, the concept… ?
Statik. S : Non, la seule raison pour laquelle j’ai signé c’est parce que le label voulait que je continue à faire ce que je sais faire. Mon son ne changera pas. C’est ma signature, mon plan. // No, the whole reason that I signed up there is that they wanted me to stay doing what I do. My sound won’t change. It’s my blueprint.
OFIVE : Est-ce que cette signature t’as aidé à rencontrer et travailler avec des artistes « intouchables » ? // Did this new contract help you in meeting and working with high profile artists you couldn’t reach before ?
Statik. S : Non, j’avais déjà préparé une bonne moitié de cet album avant même d’être signé. // No, I actually did most of this album before I even signed.
OFIVE : Il y a beaucoup de rappeurs présents sur tes albums. Qui sont ceux qui t’ont le plus impressionné depuis « Spell My Name Right » ? // A lot of MCs contributed to your albums. Who are the rappers that impressed you the most since « Spell My Name Right » ?
OFIVE : Peux-tu faire un top 3 de tes propres albums, du premier à celui-ci (« 8 ») ? // Can you rank your top 3 albums from your first one to « 8 » ?
Statik. S : « What Goes Around » , « Lucky Seven »& « 8 ».
OFIVE : Tu es également présent sur de nombreux projets collectifs (Termanology, Action Bronson, Strong Arm Steady…). As-tu l’intention de sortir d’autres EP ou albums communs prochainement ? Si oui, avec qui ? // You’re also on many collaborative records (Termanology, Action Bronson, Strong Arm Steady…) Do you plan to release other joint EPs or LPs soon ? If yes, with who ?
Statik. S : Il y a un projet commun avec 2 Chainz qui arrive l’année prochaine. // I have one coming out with 2 Chainz next year.
OFIVE : Tu viens de Boston. Malheureusement, la scène rap de cette ville semble être éclipsée par d’autres villes de la Côté Est comme New York ou Philadelphie. Pourquoi ? // You are coming from Boston. Unfortunately, Boston rap scene seems to be overshadowed by other East Coast cities as NYC or Philly. Why ?
Statik. S : Je vis à New York depuis 15 ans maintenant mais je venais déjà dans cette ville quand j’ai commencé à être DJ. Quasiment tous les artistes de Boston ou de Philadelphie étaient obligés de passer par là. C’est ma maison maintenant. // I’ve been in New York for 15 years now but I’ve been coming here since I started djing. Almost every artists from Boston or Philly has had to. It’s home now.
