Jeune producteur belge de 23 ans, Ozhora Miyagi est le talent qui se cache derrière les instrus de « Diego » de Tory Lanez, « Lord » d’A$AP Ferg, « Mirror on the wall » de Casey Veggies, « Mauvais » d’Alonzo ou encore « Génération Assassin » de Booba. Interview avec OFIVE TV. // Young 23 years old producer from Belgium, Ozhora Miyagi is the talent behind « Diego » instrumental by Tory Lanez, « Lord » by A$AP Ferg, « Mirror on the wall » by Casey Veggies, « Mauvais » by Alonzo and « Génération Assassin » by Booba. Interview with OFIVE TV.

 

O : Lorsque tu crées une instru, le fais-tu en pensant à un artiste en particulier ou, en suivant ton instinct sans savoir à qui la production sera destinée ? // When creating an instrumental, do you think about an artist in particular or, do you just follow your instinct without knowing who’s gonna rap or sing on your production ?

 

OM : Lorsque je fais une instru et que je me dis qu’elle est destinée à un artiste en particulier, je n’arrive pas à la terminer ou, je n’en suis pas satisfait. C’est parce que j’essaye trop de rentrer dans l’univers de l’artiste et, ça crée une sorte de conflit avec mon inspiration. Alors je travaille beaucoup en suivant mon instinct pour rester uniquement dans mon univers. // When I create an instrumental thinking about a particular artist, I can’t finish it or I’m never satisfied. Maybe it’s because I’m trying too hard to fit with the artist’s universe and it’s creating a kind of conflict with my inspiration. So I’m working a lot following my instinct, so I can only stay in my universe. 

 

 

 

O : Penses-tu qu’il faille forcément suivre la tendance musicale pour réussir dans le milieu de la production Hip Hop ? Faut-il s’adapter aux sonorités actuelles pour produire ou alors, laisser libre court à son imagination et « forcer » les rappeurs et le public à adopter ton propre style ? // Do you think that you have to follow the musical trend to succeed within the Hip Hop production world ? Do you have to adapt to trendy vibes to produce or, do you let your imagination do the work and then, impose your style on the rappers and audience ?

 

OM : Un peu des deux. On peut inciter le public à adopter notre style tout en suivant la tendance. Par exemple, j’aime faire de la trap avec des sonorités propres à mon univers, des sonorités un peu asiatiques. Comme dans le morceau « Génération Assassin » par exemple. Ça donne une nouvelle trap, et le public a validé à priori. // Both. You can try to make the audience adopt your style while following the music trend. For example, I love to create trap beats mixed with my own sounds and universe (Asian influences). As in the « Génération Assassin » track by Booba for example. It’s a kind of « new trap » and, I think the audience liked it.

 

 

O : Ta plus belle rencontre artistique ? // Your best artistic relationship ?

 

OM : Ma rencontre avec Casey Veggies est sûrement la plus belle. C’est un artiste super chill. Depuis qu’on a travaillé ensemble sur son album, on est souvent en contact. On est à l’autre bout du monde, mais on se parle souvent ! // My meeting with Casey Veggies is certainly the most beautiful. He’s a great and cool artist. Since we’ve worked together on his album, we’ve kept in touch. We’re not living on the same side of the planet but we are talking together very often !

 

O : En tant que producteur, quelles différences ressens-tu lorsque tu travailles avec des rappeurs américains par rapport aux rappeurs français ? // As a producer, what are the main differences between working with American rappers and French ones ?

 

OM : Les Américains respectent et apprécient beaucoup plus le travail des producteurs, je trouve. On est vraiment mis en avant sur leurs projets. Ils savent qu’on fait 50% du succès d’un titre. Mais je n’ai pas beaucoup travaillé avec des Français jusqu’à présent donc je ne suis pas très bien placé pour répondre à la question. Enfin, y’a Booba, oui, mais il est très américain dans sa façon de faire de la musique je trouve. // American rappers respect and appreciate the courtesy of producer’s work. We are highlighted in their records. They know we are making 50% of the success of a track. But I didn’t work that much with French rappers so I’m not the best placed to answer to this question. Well, I worked with Booba of course but, he’s acting like an American in the way he is dealing with his music.

 

O : Parle-nous un peu de ta collaboration avec Tory Lanez ? Celle avec Booba ? // Tell us more about your collaboration with Tory Lanez ? And the one with Booba ?

 

OM : Je connaissais Tory Lanez depuis 2011 ; on se parlait via Skype mais nous n’avions jamais collaboré. Un jour, en revenant d’une soirée où le titre « Coco »  tournait en boucle, je me suis mis devant mon ordi et j’ai bossé jusqu’au petit matin. J’avais envie de faire un club banger aussi fort que « Coco ». J’ai envoyé la prod à Tory Lanez et c’est devenu le morceau « Diego ». Quelques semaines après, je dansais sur mon propre club banger, à Paris, Bruxelles, et même à Liège. Le morceau a tourné partout ! // I’ve known Tory Lanez since 2011; we were talking on Skype but we never collaborated. A night, coming back from a party where « Coco » track was played all night long, I opened my computer and worked until the early morning. I wanted to create a club banger as heavy as « Coco ». I sent the production to Tory Lanez and it became « Diego » track. Few weeks later, I was dancing on my own banger in Paris, Bruxelles and even Liège. The track was played everywhere !

 

 

 

Sinon pour Booba, je l’ai rencontré lors de l’ouverture de la boutique Unkut de ma ville. Il m’avait donné son mail mais je n’avais jamais envoyé d’instru. Jusqu’au jour où il poste sur Instagram une vidéo de sa fille en train de danser sur « Diego ». Plusieurs personnes m’ont taggué sur sa vidéo et suite à ça, je lui ai envoyé quelques instrus et il a choisi celle de « Génération Assassin » pour son album. // I met Booba at the opening of Unkut shop in my city. He gave me his email but I never sent instrumentals to him. One day, he posted her daughter dancing on « Diego » on Instagram. Some people mentioned me on the video then, I sent him a couple of instrumentals and he chose the one of « Génération Assassin » for his album.

 

O : D’où te viens cette passion pour la culture japonaise ? // Where does your passion for Japanese culture come from ?

 

OM : Depuis mon enfance, je suis fan de mangas japonais. Je passais des heures à la bibliothèque ou dans les rayons des librairies pour en lire ; puis ça s’est aggravé avec les dessins animés. Aujourd’hui, j’en regarde toujours beaucoup. D’ailleurs, j’en lance toujours un avant de me mettre devant l’ordi pour faire une instru. Ça m’inspire. // I’ve been addicted to Japanese mangas since my childhood. I was spending hours at the library or in bookstores to read them; then I became even more addicted to manga cartoons. Today, I still watch a lot of them. I always watch a manga before creating an instrumental, it inspires me.

 

O : The Neptunes ou Timbaland ? Pourquoi ? // The Neptunes or Timbaland ? Why ?

 

OM : The Neptunes ! Au niveau des sonorités, ils ont un style particulier bien à eux. Ils ont réussi à donner une nouvelle couleur à la musique pop, tout en restant urbains. Ils ont mélangé les publics et ça, je trouve que c’est vraiment bien. Mais on ne peut pas nier l’apport de Timbaland et sa créativité à la musique ! Il m’a donné envie de créer mes propres sonorités. Il est super fort ! // The Neptunes ! On the sounds side, they really have their own style and touch. They succeeded in giving a new color to pop music while keeping their urban vibes. They mixed the audience and this is a great thing. But no one can deny Timbaland’s talent and the creativity he brought to the music industry ! He gave me the motivation to create my own sound. He’s really good.

 

O : L’artiste avec lequel tu rêverais de collaborer ? // The artist you would dream about collaborating with ?

 

OM : Impossible de choisir entre Drake et Kanye West ! Je rêve de collaborer avec les deux. Ils sont une grande source d’inspiration. // I can’t make my choice between Drake and Kanye West ! I dream of collaborating with both of them. They are a big source of inspiration.

 

O : Miley Cyrus ou Selena Gomez ? // Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez ?

 

OM : Miley Cyrus bien sûr ! Elle est plus franche, plus cash que Selena, qui elle, reste un peu dans sa case, bien lisse, bien polie. Miley a un côté sauvage que je trouve plus sympathique et authentique que celui de Selena. Non ? // Miley Cyrus of course ! She’s more genuine and honest than Selena who still is really nice, cute, polite… Miley has a wild side that I love. Isn’t she ?
